Rug Hooking Night: 3rd Wednesday, monthly at 7pm

Gather with Island Hookers to work on your latest project, and share ideas and techniques. Assistance for beginning rug hookers provided. This group representing all ages gathers in the library the third Wednesday of each month. Crafters working on other projects are welcome to attend.

International Film Fest:  features a selection of award winning films from around the world. Movies are shown on our large screen the first Wednesday of the month from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

BOOK DISCUSSION: A new book discussion series co-sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council began in April. This six book series focuses on the Middle East and includes a collection of fiction and nonfiction works. This series comes highly recommended from the North Hero Library, where they had a successful and thought provoking discussion last summer. Books will be available at the library soon and discussions are held on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm. Bill Biddle will facilitate this series. The books & discussion dates in this series are listed below. Please contact the library at 372.6209 if you are interested in participating. This series is free and open to the public.

ECHO PASS: Thanks to the generosity of ECHO at the Leahy Center we will continue to have the pass available to patrons through October 31, 2007. The Pass is valid 7 days a week and when presented gives up to two adults and 3 children admission to the Center for $2 per person. Please call the library to reserve the pass ahead of time. Check out their website at http://www.echovermont.org/

Shelburne Farms: Shelburne Farms generously donated one family pass to the South Hero Community Library. Similar to the Echo pass, the Shelburne Farms family pass is available for use by all of our patrons. Since there is only one pass, it is best to call ahead and reserve the pass for the day you would like to use it. The pass is checked out under your library account and provides admission for one family to Shelburne Farms. This pass is valid through June 2008.

bulletSenior Visits: Librarian Annie Brabazon visits the Senior Meal Site on Wednesdays of the last day of the month. Seniors may check out books.

bulletThe Red Clover Picture Book Award, started in 1997, is co-sponsored by Mother Goose Programs, Windham County Reads, the Vermont Department of Libraries and the Vermont Department of Education. Ten picture books are selected as candidates for the award, and students in Kindergarten to 4th Grade vote for their favorite in the spring.

bulletThe Dorothy Canfield Fisher (DCF) Children's Book Award, first given in 1957, is co-sponsored by the Vermont state PTA and the Vermont Department of Libraries. Each year, 30 books are selected as candidates for the award. Students in Grades 4-8 who read at least 5 books from the list are eligible to vote for their favorite in the spring.
