GEORGE NELSON: BUDGET PRESENTATION

George provided updated Tab Sections for Budget Binders:

-TAB G & D: will go onto website;

It was noted at this time that the dishwasher in the kitchen needs to be replaced-$5000 has been allocated for this;

-TAB K: Special Education-Beth will elaborate on this;

-TAB L: EEE- Cathi will discuss this;

-TAB M: GISU;

-TAB V: not adjusted-should go down due anticipated reduction in principal salary-allow $65000+Family Plan;

GEORGE NELSON CONTINUED:

-TAB O: TAXES-Common Level Of Appraisal goes down to 62.78%-this is bad;

-the Homestead Tax Rate is based on spending per pupil

-$11728 per pupil is threshold;

-deficits=negative income;

-Tuition Students counted at average State Rate-nb K-6 & 7-8 are at different rates;

-increased student count drops cost per pupil-should tuition students be encouraged? -discussion on this topic-offers to other towns?;

-Grand Isle taxpaying: last year 1040 tax returns total; 344 Prebated Homesteads; 46% of school tax relieved;

-Public Meeting Issue: Property Values;

INSTRUCTIONS FOR GEORGE-9 JANUARY PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETING:

-Make Budget info available: Web site/Principals Office/Town Clerk;

-Discuss ACT 68 & TABS D & G-what caused tax rate to change; (as George noted…"its not us but them"…);

-CLA makes the difference;

-What are the reasons for the Projected Tax Increase?;

-UAPK in the Budget?-a specific voter item?;

-Provide handouts;

-Power Point Presentation Of TAB D.

ADDITIONAL TEACHER:

-It was noted that the budgetary requirements of hiring an additional teacher could push the cost per pupil above the $11728 threshold;

-Herb felt that the Board needs more information on this issue-

-A PRESENTATION BY THE FACULTY ON THE NEED FOR AN ADDITIONAL TEACHER is requested at the 9 January Budget Public Information Meeting-

-SB to email this request to RT asap- ahead of minutes issuance.
