APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES

7:14PM: 22 March-PP moved-BT 2nd-GC;

 

DESTINATION IMAGINATION PRESENTATION:

Bea Shumway & Val Hunter summarized the DI program & its history at GIS, stressing the value to the participants. This years winning team has been together 4 years and has worked up through the system-a well earned win & opportunity to go to the Global Competition in Knoxville-funding support requested from GISB. Description of trip requirements & fund-raising activities to date. Minimum 4 parents need to go.

Ira mentioned the joint House/Senate Resolution recognizing the GI winning team 2 yrs ago.

 

IT-noted that DI is not in the budget.

RT-never has been although an underspent line item, eg 11610, can be used;

IT- $2400 is ok;

Discussion of amounts;

7:33PM-IT moves to allocate $2500 to applied to make up the difference between what is fund-raised and the total required-the balance to be held in the PTA-DI account for next year-HD 2nd-GC-SB abstains.

Discussion re accompanying adults, chaperone policy; background check process enables school insurance to apply. RT will provide chaperone policy.

 

 

 

PRINCIPALS REPORT

NECAP RESULTS-were due in Dec-arrived in March-start-up year issues;

Discussion of stats: Math a bit better than Reading-both comparable to State Means;

-Writing is clearly deficient in 5th & 8th grades-this is addressed in the Action Plan/GISU Focus Group;

RT has further score breakdown in his office;

Discussion re including NECAP results in Town Report.

 

SUBSTITUTE PAY

Judy Duval is a Permanent Substitute- currently @ $60/day-request to increase this to $65/day;

IT-are there deficit issues if we do this?

HD-does she attend Inservice & Staff Meetings?

RT-yes;

7:42PM-IT moves to approve the increase requested-PP 2nd-GC.

 

RT MAY SCHEDULE

-West Coast obligations-unable to attend either May GISB mtg;

 

-re 8 May:

-Laura O’Brien will have a presentation on job-sharing-she wants to split her job with another Social Studies teacher-this can be beneficial if both get along;

IT-What about Staff Meetings?

BT-Health Insurance?

IT-prorated per contract;

HD-could a student teacher be utilized?

RT-noted GI & college semester schedules could be problematic;

HD-could Laura get us some info ahead of nxt mtg?

IT-beware of implications!

-ad has been placed-30 applicants so far!

NEW PRINCIPAL UPDATE

-Troy has sold 1 of 2 houses;

-will be in town 13 May & at school 15-16-17;

-involved w/new teacher, class configuration, scheduling, County Admin Team mtg;

-planning to go to VT Math Retreat;

-mid-June arrival expected.

 

HD-inquired re SHEP?

RT-there is interest in enrichment & also past programs for kids w/unique abilities & skills: Focus Room, eg, for 6-8 kids at a time; full-time program was well-regarded;-this is a good concept needs a deliberate process to (re)initiate; invite the parent to the 22 May mtg;

IT-inquired re Math League-RT-its no longer operational.

 

note: GRADUATION IS WEDNESDAY 21 JUNE 7PM

 

HD-inquired re cell phone policy?

RT-explained necessity-there have been a couple of “incidents”…

HD-suggested that perhaps the Handbook could be updated.

 

GISU UPDATE

-HS student tracking info not yet available;

RT-dropout rate is known but not performance;

-Karen Reinhart is staying;

 

-FUTURES COMMITTEE discussed results of survey;

 NOTE: NEXT GISU FUTURES MTG IS TUES 16 MAY 7PM AT NORTH HERO

IT-could talk to the ED COMMITTEE re process for School Consolidation & report on this at nxt GISB mtg;

 

GISB ACTION ITEM

Judy Tiplady is requesting a CONTRACT EXTENSION-she is looking for a full-time position at one school;

8:56PM-IT moves to extend contract by two weeks-HD 2nd-GC.
