LOCAL RESOURCES

Here are some resources on the islands and surrounding area that provide family friendly activities, food, and entertainment.

Orchards:
In the fall, orchards are a wonderful place for a family outing. You can talk to your child(ren) about how apples grow and make predictions about how many apples are in a peck.

State Parks:
There are five state parks on the islands.  For a small daily fee you can access any of the five parks, and a yearly pass is available that will allow unlimited access and use of these and other parks in Vermont
Grand Isle and Knight Island: day use and overnight
Alburgh Dunes, Knight Point, and North Hero: day use only

Farm Stands:
Support local farmers and get fresh fruits and veggies! These are just four of the many farm stands on Rte 2. Stop by and talk with your child(ren) about where their food comes from.  Try a new vegetable and cook together!

Clothing:
The St Amadeus Parish Center Clothing Shop (796-3481) in Alburgh is a wonderful place to find gently used clothing for your child(ren) as they rapidly grow! They have clothing for any age and size at very low prices.  With winter upon us you can find gloves, coats, hats, and boots that are all in very good condition. Call ahead though as they have limited hours.

Restaurants:
Feeding a family can be a challenge. Even when you have access to groceries, sometimes with our busy lives it is nice to have someone else do the cooking.  The dollar menu is okay sometimes but other times you want to sit down and enjoy yourself.  Here is a link with 100 restaurants who give free/cheap meals to kids depending on the day of the week!

Historic Sites:
The Champlain Islands are rich with history. The Isle La Motte Preservation Trust has worked hard on their beautiful island maintaining the beauty of the world renown Chazy Fossil Reef. Bring your family here for fresh air and talk about how our area has changed over time.
