WHAT IS TITLE I AND WHY DOES IT MATTER TO YOU
The Grand Isle Supervisory Union (GISU), which includes the schools of Alburgh, Isle La Motte, North Hero, Grand Isle, and South Hero, has been granted Title I, Part A status. This means that all of these schools are eligible for federal programmings based on academic need. The funds that GISU receives is used to improve curriculum, instructional activities, counseling, and parental involvement. The program is designed to help all of our students become proficient on state academic standards.
The federal government requires schools to notify parents annually about five key requirements. These are:
Qualifications of teachers and paraprofessionals
Notification if your child’s teacher is not highly qualified
Report cards
Parent involvement policy
Home school compact
It also allows me to work with schools, communities, and parents to ensure that students are given every opportunity to succeed. Part of my job is to help you, the parent, understand your rights.
